Gujarat State Landuse and Base Map generation from Satellite imagery, India

The area covered about 235,000 square kilometers. This was a five year project and the contract value was about $5,800,000.

The project was identification of potential user industries of gas and oil products, location and customized mapping for generation of industrial Base Map. Planning and distribution of pipeline network for supply of gas to the industries.

Satellite imagery was processed by SECON and extensively used for creating the Base Map followed by field verification and surveys.

Raw Images from National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA, Department of Space, India) were collected. Image processing, correction & Enhancements are carried out by SECON for better landuse identification. Georeference to UTM-WGS84 was carried out based on DGPS Ground Control Points established across state by field survey. Image classification using hybrid approach was adopted to identify various type of landuse like agricultural area, urban/rural area, forests, water bodies, etc. Detailed visual interpretation was also carried out to identify roads, industries, canals, etc. Geodatabase in ArcGIS format was created for entire state. Customized GIS tools were developed to access maps & images

 
 
Digital Terrain Modelling

DTM project involves digitization of contours from Ortho images, which include spatially rectified contours, point elevations, and other hard and soft break lines that comprise a DTM of the watershed area. All the distinguishable contours are captured as lines and attributed with the appropriate elevation and are used for generating the Digital Terrain Model of the Peace Creek Watershed.
